Consulting Services

Our mission is to use real-world experience to create valuable and enduring change.

Through our consulting services, we support people to do just that. We can undertake a range of different activities under consulting assignments, relevant to your needs.

How we help- It’s about what you need, not who we are

We know many consultants approach their client’s initiative(s) based on their particular discipline (e.g. customer experience, strategy, service design, business analysis, etc.).

And for clients who aren’t sure what technique or discipline they could or should use, it can be disappointing to find they may not get what they need.

We have a unique approach to supporting organisations, irrespective of where they are in their journey from strategy to execution.

Our multidisciplinary team means we see the world differently. We have extensive experience in enterprise transformation spanning financial services, federal and state government reforms, airlines, aged care and social services.

And we have a diverse set of skills and knowledge drawn from these experiences.

This means we will work with you to understand your organisation, identify your goals and offer different options by which to achieve them.

We’ll co-design a cohesive approach with you, using as few or as many disciplines are required.

Our disciplines

Alignment starts at the first discussion

We have thought a lot about how we contribute to our clients’ success and ensure good outcomes from any work that we undertake with them. It led us to create an approach which helps us to ensure:

  • We provide the right service

  • For the right customer

  • With the right approach

Achieving this starts at the very beginning, right from the first cup of coffee. We’ll work with you to understand:

  • Your needs and objectives for the work you need completed

  • Who your key stakeholders are

  • The broader organisational context for the work

  • Critical constraints, such as timeline or budget

  • Whether you have seen something of note that you like and would like us to aim for.

The time we invest in asking important questions up front helps ensure we are on the same page, right from the first cup of coffee.

This means we can formulate options and potential pathways for you to consider and select from.

Options

We’ll provide options about how you can achieve your goals based on what you have told us, taking into consideration your constraints and needs.

This ensures you have control, right from the outset.

Pathways

We’ll co-design the methodology and pathway with you, ensuring you are clear as to how we will proceed with the work.

This will take into account how we work with your teams to achieve your objectives.

We aim to ensure you feel confident, even before working with us that we understand your priorities and that you have clarity about the work ahead.

We can work in a variety of ways which suits you-

  • Defined initiatives and projects, such as customer journey mapping, strategy development, value chain analysis, etc.

  • Through time and materials where there is uncertainty about what needs to be done first or where more intensive support is required (e.g. working on implementation activities, etc.)

  • Or a combination of the two.

We also offer our support on a subscription basis for selected services.

Our Consulting Principles

It’s not a contract, it’s a relationship

Sage is committed to building meaningful and lasting relationships with our clients. We know it’s is better for our clients who work in partnership with a consultancy who understand their business and shares their values. If we’re not on assignment, we’re always there for our clients when they need us, even for advice or as a sounding board.

Every organisation has challenges and while those challenges may have roots in past, they need to be considered in context and with empathy for those involved. Because decisions or changes are always taken with the right intent and may have been right at the time. It’s about appreciating that past, recognising the organisation’s growth and journey, and focussing on the journey ahead.

We respect the past

When we work with our clients, we work with them at their level. We don’t start with the need for potentially expensive investments up front where a simple solution might be the answer you need. We understand where the organisation is now, the desired direction and adapt our approach and tools to suit. Like a good suit, one size does not fit all.

We meet you where you are

We aim for action, not shelf-wear

We ourselves have been consulting clients. And something we have observed is that often, fancy reports look great but unless the organisation knows what to do with that information, it can end up as an expensive book on a shelf (aka Shelf-ware). We constantly come across “archaeology”- great work by another consultant that wasn’t actioned by the organisation.

So while we do the fancy reports, we also focus on what you need to take that work forward, supplying tools and guidance.

Taking action on our work sometimes requires a decision about which path to take. So we consider that in our work and scout the way. We’ll provide options about which directions you can take and the pros and cons of each.

We scout the road ahead

No one knows your business better than you. We know that we have been invited in by our clients and trusted to help them achieve what they need. We provide frank and fearless advice but we know that our clients carry the accountability and responsibility to make decisions and lead their organisations in the direction required. We respect that and our aim to support our clients to do that well.
