Sustainability
Why sustainability?
Our sustainability statement sets out Sage Design and Advisory’s sustainability strategy, including the goals we are seeking to achieve and the activities we will undertake.
We use real-world experience to create valuable and enduring transformation. And while we do that for businesses, our ethos goes beyond that.
We are specialists in designing for change
We are specialists in creating change
We are specialists in creating sustainable change
And so, it makes sense that we recognise that change starts with us…with our own behaviours.
We have taken a practical approach to developing our sustainability practices by considering our environment, from the offices we work in, to the work we do with our clients and stakeholders.
Our workplace
Sage Design and Advisory is a member of the Hub Australia network of co-working spaces. Our office is located in Anzac Square in Brisbane but enables us to work flexibly from their locations throughout Australia. This prevents us from retaining unnecessary and under-utilised space, which contributes to the broader environmental impact through energy consumption and other maintenance activities.
Hub Australia supports us with:
Carbon neutral-certified offices and workspaces
Green power
Carbon footprint offsets
Dedicated recycling and paper waste bins
Eco-friendly cleaning
Bicycle storage and parking
Coffee recycling
Locally-sourced products
In concert with Hub’s efforts, we are also dedicated to creating an enriched and green environment, with fresh plants to naturally recycle the carbon dioxide we generate. We also:
Recycle ink cartridges, paper, plastic and other recyclable products not provided by Hub Australia
Unplug laptops and mobile devices when we aren’t actively using them
Use recycled and reusable products wherever possible, including paper, cardboard, office furniture and so on.
Support working from home
Encourage the use of public transport where practicable for staff when coming into the office
Undertaking our work
One of our major services is design…and that often means we use a lot of post-it notes and paper. Post-it notes might be great to design with but not great for the environment. Beyond reducing our consumption post it notes, there’s a range of activities we’re undertaking now to improve our sustainability and environmental practices on a day-to-day basis.
We have developed a suite of sustainable and reusable design components to use in co-design workshops
We are seeking to extend our toolkits to enable future design efforts to be 100% reusable
We are also planning to launch our toolkits in 2023 to be available for organisations and designers outside of Sage, who also want to use sustainable practices in their design activities.
We engage using digital means where possible and utilise air travel only when necessary
We are actively looking at new digital technologies which will enable us to reduce the need for materials which are consigned to waste or recycling after workshops or training is complete.
